01 ABOUT
THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY
LAMPANG CAMPUS
GENERAL INFORMATION AND EXECUTIVES
In 1992, Thammasat University had considered
expanding educational opportunities from the
central part of Thailand to other regions by
firstly establishing a campus in Lampang prov-
ince and providing a Master’s degree of Politics
and Government (MPE) for executive officers.
In 1996, the Ministry of University Affairs had
a policy of expanding quality education for
people in the region. Thammasat University
Lampang Center was founded on the 8th
of July 1996. At the beginning, the former
Lampang City Hall was authorized to be a
teaching and learning campus of Thammasat
University. During its renovation, in the first ac-
ademic year of 1998, students from the Social
Administration program had to study at the
Rangsit campus before returning to Lampang
Campus and continuing their studies after the
completion of renovation in 1999. The College
of Interdisciplinary Studies was also founded
in that year.
Later, the executives decided to expand the
size of the campus. A land of 364 rai 3 ngan
and 79 square wah in Moo 2, Yang Khok Subdis-
trict, Hang Chat District, Lampang province was
donated along with the construction fund of
62,472,650 Baht for the first learning building in
the courtesy of Mr. Boonchoo Treethong, the
Minister of University Affairs at that time. The 02

construction started in 2000 with the royal
grace of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.
The first building was completed in 2003. The
princess kindly named the building as "Sirind-
hararat" after her name.
The Lampang center moved from the City Hall
to the current location in the second semester
of the academic year of 2003.
Currently, Thammasat University Lampang
Campus has 6 faculties and 1 Institute: Law,
Social Administration, Fine and Applied Arts,
College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Public
Health, Science and Technology and Language
Institute. The language Institute is established
to offer English courses and train students in
all faculties at the Lampang campus having
a same standard as other two of Thammasat
University’s academic campuses (Tha Prachan
and Rangsit). Through on-line media, the Lam-
pang campus has helped a community and
society by delivering academic information
and trending concerns, organizing activities
and workshops for Lampang people to
improve their quality of life, preserving art
